JMW Turner and Changing Visions of Landscape, Norwich Castle Museum
- 19th October 2024 to 23rd February 2025
- Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Castle Hill, Norwich, NR1 3JU
Curated by Dr Francesca Vanke, Senior Curator at Norwich Castle Museum the exhibition focuses on Turner's influence, exploring artists' approaches to landscape from the 17th century to the present.
The exhibition compares his visionary approach with those who influenced him and those he inspired including works by contemporary artists who are responding to the rapidly changing climate.
These include Emma Stibbon, who in 2018 followed the route Turner had taken when he visited the Alps and compared his drawings with how the same mountain scenery looks today. Stibbon found that several of the glaciers Turner portrayed were vastly retreated, due to the warming climate.
